Republicans Against the American Jobs Act

How much is 0.5% of your taxable income?  If you had the option, would you pay that much to help do the following?

  • $10,000 - $50
  • $20,000 - $100
  • $30,000 - $150
  • $40,000 - $200
  • $50,000 - $250
  • $75,000 - $375
  • $100,000 - $500

Republicans unanimously voted against the American Jobs Act.  This means that they would not risk a tax increase of 0.5% on those with taxable income of other $1,000,000 a year to:

  1. Prevent over 200,000 teachers and first responders from being laid off.  Instead of teaching our children and saving lives they will be sitting at home collecting unemployment checks, paid for by your tax dollars
  2. Start fixing the over 2,700 miles of our nation's crumbling highways and bridges while putting some of the 2 million out of work construction workers back to work
  3. Give small businesses the potential to save hundreds of thousands of dollars in tax refunds to incentivize hiring
  4. Fix  1/3 of schools while putting some of the 2 million out of work construction workers back to work .  44% of principals say that the poor condition of their school affect's the student's ability to learn.
  5. Help America's vets find jobs
  6. Let impoverished children get a summer job to help pay the bills
  7. Give a tax credit to hire a long term unemployed American
  8. Extend unemployment insurance for millions
  9. Prevent middle class taxes from going up 1000
    1. Check this list to see what percent of your income that is.  The Republicans gave up a 0.5% tax hike for millionaires give to give you the following tax hire
      $10,000 - 10%
      $20,000 - 5%
      $30,000 - 3.33%
      $40,000 - 2.5%
      $50,000 - 2%
      $75,000 - 1.3%
      $100,000 - 1%
      $200,000 - 0.5%
If you have less than $200,000 in taxable income a year then the GOP voted you a bigger tax increase than they were "protecting" the millionaires from
A little bit on the millionaires who, according to Republicans, can't take a 0.5% tax cut
  • 25 of the 100 top paid CEO's were paid more than their companies paid in taxes
  • 1470 millionaires paid no taxes in 2009
The most conservative economists said this would create hundreds of thousands of jobs.  The smallest estimate I have found: 600,000 jobs from this bill alone.  There were 56 paychecks to be had (14 months * 4 weeks a month) from the time Obama gave this to Congress.  It has been 7 weeks since, 7 paychecks later.  The Republicans have denied 600,000 people 4,200,000 paychecks.  Will they wait until the election is over?  That would mean a loss 33,600,000 paychecks to American families,.continued deterioration of our school and road, and more stagnation in the economy.

Class Warfare

A couple quick points about "class warfare"

  • Obvious the bottom 60% of the population comprises of 60% of the population.  This is 1.5 times bigger than the remaining 40%
  • Even though 60% is greater than 40%, the Top 40% owns 36 times the wealth of the bottom 60%
  • Even though that 40% own 36 times more wealth, the top 40% pays less than 8 times more taxes.
  • Even though they pay proportionally less than the poorest 60%, increasing taxes on the top 40% is considered tax warfare by the Republicans

  • Can you see the top 400 compared to the 180,000,000 of the bottom 60% on the population graph?  Of course not.  The top 400 is 45,000 times smaller than the bottom 60%, the bar for the top 400 is 0.00009 inches wide
  • The 400 are 45,000 times smaller but have 4% more wealth.  You read that right, that 0.00001% of Americans has more wealth than the bottom 60%
Who is getting the short end of the stick?  Who is the class warfare against?

Obama, Thank You For...

Many people should be thankful that Obama has been our president
  1. Up to 2.9 million people can thank him for still being employed thanks to the Stimulus
  2. The 50+ million school-age children and their parents should thank him for the extra $100+ billion investment in education and other education reform
  3. Young adults should thank him for allowing them to stay on their parent's insurance up to age 26, especially the additional 1 million that have been able to get it in the first year
  4. The ~10% of the workers that have jobs related to the auto industry should thank him for lending major companies money to hold them together; the taxpayer should thank him for making a profit on those loans
  5. The soldiers should thank him for being returned to their families from the pointless war in Iraq
  6. The millions of Americans who had their unemployment benefits extended beyond 30 weeks (7.5 months) should thank him for being able to pay their bills that much longer
  7. Those living on our southern boarder should thank him for increasing boarder security to its highest point in the history of the nation
  8. Women should thank him for giving them help in fighting pay discrimination

Our Economy: In a Way Everyone Can See

You don't need three college degrees from MIT to know how our economy is doing

  • These are the total non-government jobs held by American
  • It starts dropping a lot in the last Bush months
  • Obama takes office on January 20th 2009
  • Jobs go up after February 2010.  It has been going up since.
  • Jobs gained since February 2010, end of the recession: 3,664,000  (3.6% of all jobs in America)
  • Jobs gained since February 2009, Obama's first full month in office: 176,000  (0.17% of all jobs in America)

  • This second chart is the change of jobs from month to month
  • When Bush was president we lost more and more jobs every month.  That is not a total loss in jobs, that is just the one month job loss
  • When Obama passes the Stimulus in February 2009 we lose fewer and fewer jobs
  • As you can see, we gain jobs every month after March 2010

Simple right?  When someone tells you that Obama has made things worse then they either don't know the facts or they think you are too stupid to do research on your own.

Message from the President on Iraq

I'm writing to tell you that all US troops will return home from Iraq by the end of December. After nearly nine years, the American war in Iraq will end. Our servicemen and women will be with their families for the holidays.

The war in Iraq came with tremendous cost. More than a million Americans served in Iraq, and nearly 4,500 gave their lives in service to the rest of us. Today, as always, we honor these patriots.

When I came into office, I pledged to bring the war in Iraq to a responsible end. As Commander in Chief, I ended our combat mission last year and pledged to keep our commitment to remove all our troops by the end of 2011. To date, we’ve removed more than 100,000 troops from Iraq.

This is a significant moment in our history. For more information, including video, please visit WhiteHouse.gov/BringingTroopsHome.

The end of the war in Iraq reflects a larger trend. The wars of the past decade are drawing to a close.

As we have removed troops from Iraq, we have refocused our fight against al Qaeda and secured major victories in taking out its leadership–including Osama bin Laden. And we’ve begun a transition in Afghanistan.

On the first day of my Administration, roughly 180,000 troops were deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. By the end of this year that number will be cut in half, and we’ll continue to draw it down.

As we welcome home our newest veterans, we’ll enlist their talents in meeting our greatest challenges as a nation—restoring our economic strength at home. Because after a decade of war, the nation that we need to build is our own.

Today the United States moves forward, from a position of strength.

Thank you,

President Barack Obama

Message about Jobs Bill

Last night, Democrats in the Senate tried to pass a simple piece of President Obama's jobs plan that shouldn't be controversial: provide money to prevent further layoffs of teachers, cops, and firefighters at the local level, and pay for it by taxing the income of millionaires an extra 0.5%.

This morning a lot of media outlets reported that the Senate "rejected" or "voted down" this proposal.

But that's not what happened. The measure didn't come to an actual vote.

That's because every single Republican senator filibustered the bill -- meaning they wouldn't even let an up-or-down vote happen. Republicans have unilaterally decided not to allow even that simple majority vote on anything that might help the economy before the next election.

To be clear: This bill would have created jobs, and both parties have supported similar measures in the past.

But, sadly, some in the Congress do not feel any responsibility to act. As someone who has spent a lot of time working in and with the Senate, I can tell you that it's a particularly low moment for the legislative branch of our government.

It doesn't need to be this way. That's why the President and our campaign are focused on fixing what's broken in Washington. Right now, that means we're going to keep the pressure on Congress to act, until every single piece of the President's jobs plan -- the parts to help veterans find jobs and get small businesses hiring more people -- gets a vote.

So please, reach out and keep reaching out to Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader in the Senate, and ask him to give each piece of the American Jobs Act a fair vote.

You can reach his office at (202) 224-2541.

Call now -- then let us know how it went.

If you're on Twitter, be sure to tweet at your Republicans in Congress as well.

We'll have more on this soon.

Obama and Job Creation

    GOP = Job Loss

    GOP president: Downward trend
Dem House, Senate and President: Upward trend
    GOP House: Downward trend

Republicans in control results in job loss.  Democrats in control results in job creation.
