Message from Nancy Pelosi

There are those who will spend their time trying to “predict” the results of next November’s elections and our support of the President just by our actions today.

While there are no crystal balls in politics, you can send a real message today that Democrats are united and strong and that we have what it takes to win big in 2012.

September 30th will be the first Federal Election Commission (FEC) fundraising deadline since the President introduced his American Jobs Act to put Americans back to work and ensure that the wealthiest among us are paying their share.

This is a fight worth waging. We’ve set a goal of raising $1 Million from grassroots Democrats before this critical FEC deadline to show the world House Democrats are united and determined to fight for President Obama’s plan.

Why 5 People Support the American Jobs Act: Part 2

  1. we the people need jobs. My husband was without a job for 2 years and has recently gained employment but earning 65% less than what he was making 2 years ago. I have been laid off 2 years coming this November and have been unable to find employment. Something has got to be done, if nothing is done the America we have known in the past that was successful may return too late for many Americans. So many families have lost their jobs, their homes. Some have turned to dishonesty to keep their families together.
  2. I know it's time to end the gridlocks and games in Washington
  3. Our country needs jobs. Stop trying to keep Amercans out of jobs, get it together and vote to bring jobs back to Americans!
  4. the need to put unemployed people back to work for additional revenue is simple common sense. To only consider reducing the debt will not get this country back on track.
  5. it will help both business owners and employees. The president has brought together several fantastic ideas from all across the political spectrum. Now is the time to act and help America's economy in any way possible.

Why 5 People Support the American Jobs Act

  1. Americans need JOBS
  2. It is time to act to get americans back to work. Please stop worring about who will get the credit for doing something good for this country. Do the right thing for our country not your party!
  3. I AM one of those small business owners. My customers need jobs so they can have income to buy from small businesses like mine. It's time we ALL did our fair share. Pass this bill now!!
  4. We hemorrhaged jobs in 2008, and we have yet to recover even the ones we lost, let alone to put our country back on a path towards (sustainable) growth. That's what the American Jobs Act aims to do, and that's why I support it, and I urge you to support it as well. Economists may disagree on the magnitude of the impact on jobs -- ranging from 1 million to 2 million jobs created just in 2012 -- but I haven't heard one respected economist say that this bill would have a detrimental effect on the economy. Don't be obstructionist on this one, please. For our sake and for yours. We sent you guys to Washington to do a job, and you haven't done it.
  5. I broke my back five years ago and have been unable to work or redeive federal disability. They have made it impossible. I have no income yet am very capable, speak French, Spanish and have 35 years of experience. I keep putting out my resume, sometimes 20 a day, but no one calls me back. The phone just doesn't ring. I used to be able to work anytime, anywhere, I was a moneymaker...now I have to live most frugally from the kindness of strangers. Please invest the taxpayer money on the taxpayers, our infrastructure, roads, bridges, schools, postal, police, fire, school buses for free, all of these are Labor Intensive investments, rather than the Capital Intensive Defense spending.

Why support it?  Conservatie estimates put the impact at 600,000 jobs gained over the next year.  Liberal estimates put it close to 2,000,000 jobs gained over the next two years.  Moderate estimates say 1,000,000 jobs gained over the next year.

Message from 'Obama for America'

A couple weeks ago, President Obama sat down for lunch with six of the campaign's summer organizers to thank them for their work and share some of the lessons he learned when he was a first-time community organizer himself.

He made the time because organizing is at the heart of this movement. It's how we're building our operation from the ground up over the next 14 months.

As we pause this weekend to celebrate the working men and women in our country who fought for the right to organize, it's worth taking a few minutes to listen to what the President had to say -- and think about how we'll organize this campaign in the months to come.

Labor Day has added significance in the political calendar -- it's seen as the moment when the race for the Republican nomination will really heat up.

That means we need to be prepared for even more false attacks on the President's record as our prospective opponents try to build their own campaigns.

But we'll win this election the same way we won the last one: through people stepping up locally, taking the lead in the communities they know best.

Some supporters will dedicate months to this campaign, while others will pop in for a few volunteer shifts here and there. Any time and expertise you can share helps grow this organization -- and brings people together to make our country greater.

That's a strategy our prospective opponents won't follow.

Watch the video, then sign up to volunteer in your community:

Our job from now until November 2012 is to keep working to bring more people into the political process. And that begins and ends with organizing.

Hope you have a great Labor Day weekend.

Good for Business, Bad for America

Republicans want to deregulate the economy to encourage growth.  Hmmm, when was the last time that happened...Oh right it was under Bush and resulted in the biggest economic collapse since the great depression.  Some business practices are profitable but harm the overall economy.

Irene Message from Sen. Lautenberg to NJ Residents

Yesterday, President Obama issued a Major Disaster Declaration for damage resulting from Hurricane Irene in our state, which makes many New Jersey residents eligible for a number of Federal disaster relief programs. These programs offer grants and loans to individuals and loans to businesses.
The Federal Government has set up a website that allows people to apply online for assistance: http://www.disasterassistance.gov

This website consolidates the application process across several Federal agencies, including FEMA and the Small Business Administration. The website also reduces the number of forms you will ultimately have to fill out, shortens the time it takes to apply and allows you to check the progress of your applications online.
If you want to apply by phone rather than the Internet, you can call 1-800-621-FEMA (1-800-621-3362).
While the damage suffered across New Jersey is devastating, I know our state can rebound quickly. Federal aid will play a crucial role in our recovery, so please take advantage of the resources available. Please don't hesitate to contact me anytime regarding this or other issues.

IMPORTANT: Message from the President

Today I asked for a joint session of Congress where I will lay out a clear plan to get Americans back to work. Next week, I will deliver the details of the plan and call on lawmakers to pass it.

Whether they will do the job they were elected to do is ultimately up to them.

But both you and I can pressure them to do the right thing. We can send the message that the American people are playing by the rules and meeting their responsibilities -- and it's time for our leaders in Congress to meet theirs.

And we must hold them accountable if they don't.

So I'm asking you to stand with me in calling on Congress to step up and take action on jobs:

http://my.barackobama.com/Time-To-Act

No matter how things go in the weeks and months ahead, this will be an important challenge for our organization.

It's been a long time since Congress was focused on what the American people need them to be focused on.

I know that you're frustrated by that. I am, too.

That's why I'm putting forward a set of bipartisan proposals to help grow the economy and create jobs -- that means strengthening our small businesses, giving needed breaks to middle-class families, while taking responsible steps to bring down our deficit.

I'm asking lawmakers to look past short-term politics and take action on that plan. But we've got to do this together.

I will deliver this message to Congress next week, but I'm asking you to stand alongside me today:
